Add Personal Notes to Your Upwork Conversations

Add Private Notes to Your Upwork Conversations

Tired of chasing your Upwork-related notes across sticky notes, notebooks, or apps? We’re rolling out private notes to Upwork Messages (via the web or desktop app), so you can keep important notes and conversations in one place. You’ll be able to add notes inside any Messages conversation.

Your personal notepad is just that: Personal—and not viewable by other users. You can use it to record your thoughts or contract-related details for easier reference. For example:

  • Jot down impressions, ideas, or follow-up questions during an interview.
  • Keep a short to-do list, or track your next steps, by updating your notepad.
  • Note important URLs, IP addresses, passwords, or other details.

Your notes are not visible to other users and are specific to that particular chatroom.

To access your notepad from Messages:

  1. Click on the notepad icon on the top right of the Messages screen when you’re inside a conversation.
  2. Once you start typing in the note field, your notes will be saved automatically. You’ll see an “All changes saved” notification on the top right of your notepad; if you hover your mouse over the text, you’ll be able to see when your notes were last saved.
  3. Clicking the notepad icon again will minimize the panel.

You can only access your notes in the conversation in which you’ve taken them, as your notes are specific to the Messages room.

The personal notepad isn’t available yet on the Proposals Page or in the Contract Workroom—but it’s coming soon!
