New for Upwork Proposals: Freelancers Can Add Project Milestones

Black and white milestone markers along a path. As part of the proposal submission process for fixed-price projects on Upwork, freelancers can now add their own milestones.

One of the most common requests from freelancers in the Upwork community: The ability to add milestones as part of the proposal process.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll roll out a new tool that will enable freelancers to do just that, enabling them to showcase their skills more easily when submitting proposals for fixed-price projects over $100.

If you’re a freelancer, you’ll see an option to divide the work into milestones, each with a description, amount, and optional due date (see screenshot below). We hope this will help you better explain your total bid amount and demonstrate your approach to the work, leading to even more compelling proposals.

If you’re a client, these milestones mean you’ll get more detailed proposals from the subject matter experts themselves. They’ll be defined as part of proposals submitted to you, so you don’t need to create them as part of the offer process.

In the near future, we’ll address another common request: The ability for freelancers to adjust milestones on active contracts.
